Family friendly or adults only, action and adventure or romance and relaxation, the islands of Fiji offer something for everyone.
If postcard-perfect dreamy tropical islands with rainforested peaks and palm-fringed beaches, surrounded warm turquoise lagoons and a brilliant underwater world weren’t enough to entice you to visit this beautiful part of our planet, here we share 8 more fabulous reasons to start planning a Fiji vacay right away:
1. Nowhere offers a genuinely warm welcome like the islands of Fiji.
From the first bright ‘Bula!’ that welcomes you on arrival to the soft singing of Isa-Lei as you depart, happiness and hospitality come naturally here. The gentle friendly nature and genuine wide smiles of your welcoming hosts are guaranteed to leave lasting memories on your heartstrings.
2. World-class surf breaks
If riding some of the planet’s most epic surf breaks is on your bucket-list, then Fiji should most certainly also be on your ‘must-visit’ list. Head to the Mamanuca islands (we can highly recommend a stay at Likuliku Lagoon Resort, Tokoriki Island Resort, Vomo or Six Senses) for the best access to world famous waves including Cloudbreak, Restaurants, Namoto Lefts or Wilkes Passage. (The months of March to October offer the best surf conditions).
3. Spectacular snorkelling and scuba diving
Step straight off the beach at almost any of Fiji’s luxury island resorts to enjoy snorkelling with a kaleidoscope of corals and tropical fish.
For those who wish to explore a little deeper Fiji’s maze of vibrant coral reefs and diversity of marine life have attracted and captivated scuba divers from around the globe to dive the 100km long Great Astrolabe Reef (best accessed from Kokomo Private Island) with its pristine displays of colourful hard corals and dramatic deep sea drop offs; or the Somosomo Strait, Great White Wall and Rainbow Reefs (available as a day excursion from Como Laucala) in what is often referred to as the ‘soft coral capital of the world’.
Elsewhere in the archipelago visitors can snorkel and dive with dolphins and migrating whales as they shelter in the Namena Marine Reserve (near Jean Michel Cousteau Resort), with sharks in Pacific Harbour (Fiji’s famous Shark Dive is best accessed from Royal Davui resort) or majestic manta rays near Kadavu Island (an experience available from Kokomo Private Island and best experienced between June and September).
4. Endless action and adventure for all ages
On land and sea, these islands provide a natural playground for an impressive collection of outdoor adventures from deep sea game fishing excursions to swimming in the ancient Sawa-i-lau limestone caves or horseback riding on the beach; as well as golfing, surfing, white water rafting, sailing, snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing, hiking, tennis and a wide range of water sports (from kayaking and paddleboarding to jet-skiing and wakeboarding).
There are also opportunities for luxury travellers to participate hands-on coral restoration and wildlife conservation activities – and it doesn’t take much to convince your Fijian hosts to play a game of beach rugby!
5. Unlimited opportunities for romance and relaxation
From sunrise yoga to sunset cocktails, the islands serve up some spectacular ways to relax and unwind with most luxury island resorts in Fiji boasting divine day spas (offering a menu of traditional massage treatments) and many also providing romantic private dining settings (from treetop tables to secluded beach picnics – perfect opportunities to pop the question or celebrate a special occasion).
Seize the opportunity to embrace “Fiji time” and settle into nature’s unhurried rhythm. Private plunge pools, overwater bungalows, dreamy sun-kissed hammocks and adults-only resorts; honeymooners, couples and those simply looking to escape will find their paradise right here.
6. Where family-friendly doesn’t mean sacrificing grown-up pleasures
Almost every luxury Fiji resort boasts a fabulous kids club (where kids will actually want to go!) and ‘Baby Butlers’ or naturally nurturing nannies to look after the little ones whilst parents enjoy an adults-only afternoon or a romantic dinner for two. (Family-friendly Vomo Private Island Resort even has a dedicated child-free chill-zone with an adults-only pool, bar and restaurant).
7. Experience a rich and colourful culture
There are countless colourful opportunities to experience traditional Fijian culture – whether visiting a local village, sitting in on a Sunday church service to listen to the locals sing, experiencing a traditional kava ceremony, indulging in a lovo feast or watching a traditional meke dance.
Fiji’s multicultural melting pot also translates onto local menus and plates through Melanesian cooking techniques, fragrant Indian spices and deliciously fresh local produce: from tropical fruits to tropical fish. (Ask our Travel Design team to arrange a hands-on cooking class during your stay).
8. World-class luxury resorts
Fiji’s world-class luxury resorts are almost all united by an offering of modern comforts, delicious dining, divine day spas, world-class sustainability initiatives and a raft of activities – yet each one also offers a distinctly different character.
