Out Of The Ordinary Outback

Explore the extraordinary outback in our own backyard

Unfamiliar to most Australians (other than as the backdrop to films such as Mad Max II and Mission Impossible II, A Town Like Alice and Priscilla Queen of the Desert); and all too often overlooked, Broken Hill is the gateway to an extraordinary collection of outback experiences.
Over seven adventure-packed days, travel on red dirt roads and picnic beneath red river gums, noodle for opals in the underground township of White Cliffs and cruise the vast Menindee Lake waterways and wetlands. Watch the sun set over the ‘Walls of China’ in Mungo National Park and dine under the outback stars in Broken Hill. Walk in the footsteps of Australia’s legendary early explorers (Sturt, Burke and Wills) and learn about a history more ancient than any other (with local Aboriginal heritage dating back some 40,000 years). Enjoy insights into life on the land with a stay on a working outback sheep station; and to life underground with a stay at White Cliffs’ Underground Motel. From Wilcannia to White Cliffs, Mungo to Mutawintji, experience an extraordinary diversity of landscapes and meet a colourful collection of outback characters.

Experience the outback in style. Clare Valley, Flinders Ranges, Coober Pedy and Ayers Rock

Departing from Adelaide, enjoy a taste of the Clare Valley, en route to Arkaba. Set on a private wildlife conservancy, surrounded by the spectacular Flinders Ranges, Arkaba offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the story of the Australian bush; through prehistoric geology, ancient indigenous cultures, a rich pioneering past, diverse wildlife and the chance to get ‘hands-on’ with the property’s conservation programs. During your stay, enjoy a scenic heli-flight over Wilpena Pound to spend a night in a luxury swag under the star-filled outback skies.

Travel by private prop-jet to Coober Pedy to sleep underground in the opal capital of the world. A private tour will take you beneath the earth to discover a labyrinth of underground houses, hotels, churches and shops, visit one of the local opal mines and enjoy a breathtaking outback sunset over the beautiful Breakaways.

Continuing by private plane to Uluru, enjoy three nights at the luxurious Longitude 131. Visit Uluru and Kata Tjuta, learn the art of Aboriginal dot painting during a private class and enjoy a memorable private dining experience on a jaw-dropping dune top during your stay in the Red Centre.

Red Centre revealed

Outback to Ocean

An iconic outback self-drive adventure along the Gibb River Road from Kununurra to Broome.

Collect your 4WD rental vehicle in Kununurra and embark on an epic outback driving adventure following the Gibb River Road. Staying in the relaxed comfort of some of Australia’s most far flung wilderness lodges, explore the remote reaches of our breathtaking continent. Travelling through the dramatic outback gorge country, stay at Emma Gorge and Bell Gorge; and visit Windjana Gorge and Geikie Gorge National Parks. Take up the opportunity to visit engaging Aboriginal communities, hike to majestic waterfalls, swim in tranquil waterholes and take a dip in
outback thermal springs. There are also opportunities for birdwatching and barramundi-fishing, horse-riding and guided hikes (additional costs may apply). The spectacular 60-minute scenic flight over the ancient striped domes of the Bungle Bungle and the World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park that we have included with your itinerary, is sure to be one of the many highlights of your iconic outback self-drive adventure!
