Wine country to big sky country
The Great Australian Gourmet Adventure
Hands-on, behind-the-scenes and under the stars, this 7 night South Australian adventure is a feast for all the senses.
Go behind the cellar door to sip vintage Grange at Penfolds Magill Estate, enjoy VIP access at Henschke’s hallowed Hill of Grace vineyard and sample your birth year from the barrel in Seppeltfield’s Centenary Cellar. Sit at the Chef’s Table at St Hugo’s, pop in and say hello to Maggie Beer at her Barossa Valley farm and enjoy degustation dining at the Louise’s awarded Appellation. For a complete change of pace and scenery, Arkaba Homestead in the Flinders Ranges, serves up hands-on cooking experiences, ridge-top sundowners and spectacular starlit dinners.
On arrival into Adelaide your private transfer will be waiting to whisk you away to the beautiful Barossa – but not before calling in at Penfolds’ Magill Estate. Go behind-the-scenes to visit the winery, vintage cellar and underground drives and enjoy a private tasting of their hallowed Grange.
Check in to your accommodation surrounded by the Barossa’s rolling vines.
A full-day private tour of the best of the Barossa includes VIP access to (and tastings of) Henscke’s celebrated Hill of Grace, lunch at Australian queen of all things culinary, Maggie Beer’s Farm Eatery and a visit to Seppeltsfield’s Centenary Cellar with the opportunity to sample your birth year directly from the barrel!
This evening, we have arranged for you to enjoy a degustation dinner in The Louise’s highly-awarded Appellation restaurant.
Your private driver will deliver you to (and from) today’s immersive winery experience. Wander the St Hugo’s kitchen garden (glass of sparkling in hand), to select the seasonal produce to be used in the preparation for today’s lunch. Then join the chefs in the kitchen to help prepare your feast before sitting down together over a relaxed Chef’s table lunch with matched St Hugo wines.
If there’s still room, we can recommend a dinner at the nearby fermentAsian showcasing regional produce cleverly woven into South East Asian dishes of deliciousness.
Swapping rolling vines for rugged outback, transfer by road from the Barossa Valley to Arkaba Station today, calling in at the Clare Valley en route to sample some Skillogalee’s hand-crafted Rieslings from the historic family-owned cellar door.
Arkaba Homestead, surrounded by the ancient landscapes of the Flinders Ranges is your home for the next three nights. All meals are included with your stay and are best enjoyed, shared on the homestead’s outdoor terrace. The menu here showcases the best of South Australia’s produce (including locally foraged native ingredients such as quandongs, native pears and acacia pods) and an exclusively South Australian wine list.
In an experience exclusive to Southern Crossings’ guests join Chef Veronica in the kitchen for the personalised and privileged opportunity to recreate her menu featured in ‘Australia: Inspired Escapes + Culinary Journeys’ cook book, produced in partnership with Southern Crossings and Gourmet Traveller.
Your stay at Arkaba also includes a selection of signature touring experiences and activities including 4WD wildlife safari drives, guided hikes and hands-on conservation activities. Don’t miss the opportunity to toast the sunset with sundowners on a scenic ridge-top, enjoy afternoon tea in Arkaba’s wildlife viewing hide or sample some ‘Flinders Feral Food’ (including kangaroo, emu and camel!) at the Prairie outback pub.
Enjoy lunch prepared with produce from Pauline McKenzie’s garden – another Southern Crossings exclusive. Pauline is a living library of Adnyamathanha Aboriginal culture who proudly and generously shares her connection to country through her productive kitchen garden and the ancient legends woven around the even older landscapes that surround you. (Weather permitting) Wander with her after lunch to enjoy a personalised introduction to Pauline’s fascinating culture.
Enjoy an exclusive three-course dinner under star-studded skies for a most memorable outback experience!
A private charter flight will transport you back to Adelaide, where your driver awaits to transfer you to your accommodation.
We can recommend a dinner at Adelaide’s Botanic restaurant to round out your South Australian stay.
