Enjoy complete immersion in nature and complete solitude; no roads, no people, no cell coverage, no stress. Just wild perfection at Te Whare Ruruhau.
Te Whare Ruruhau is a secluded cabin hidden in the remote New Zealand wilderness on exclusive Owhaoko ancestral lands. Owhaoko is a vast tract of held in a trust for the descendants of indigenous Māori who once walked the terrain. The area is virtually untouched and boasts a rich diversity of native flora and fauna. Only accessible by helicopter, a stay at Te Whare Ruruhau is a privilege experienced by few.

An open-plan central living space incorporating kitchen, dining and lounge areas opens out to a covered porch and spacious decks. The Nga Whetu Piata (Shining Star) bedroom is surrounded by glass walls and ceiling, perfect for watching the stars and the sunrise over the native bush, while the cosy Ahuru (Warm) bedroom includes a private deck for watching the sunset. Every room at Te Whare Ruruhau is positioned to take advantage of the exceptional views.
Your expert host ensures everything is taken care of, from meals to lighting the fire and keeping the space tidy. Your host will also share stories from the Owhaoko people and their land.

many many many thanks!!!!!!"

Planning a 7 week trip is daunting enough without the complications of COVID cancellations, rebookings, and closures. Yet every connection, every transportation detail, every accommodation, every meal, everything was flawless.
We can't thank Southern Crossings enough for making this trip all, and more, than we had imagined. You allowed us to see the best of your countries: the people, the beauty, the culture. Five stars, a blue ribbon, and a gold medal to everyone at Southern Crossings!"
