Sal Salis

Ningaloo Coast, Western Australia

Nestled in the dunes in the Cape Range National Park on Western Australia’s Ningaloo Coast – just metres from the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef - Sal Salis is an off-grid luxury eco-safari wilderness experience that is the gateway to bucket-list Australian nature experiences.

90 minutes from the nearest town (Exmouth) on the Western Australian coast were the outback meets the ocean, Sal Salis is about as remote as you can get. This is the kind of place where you can truly disconnect (there’s no televisions, wifi or mobile phone reception here) to reconnect.

Sixteen ‘off-grid’ safari-style wilderness tents (with comfortable beds, an eco-ensuite bathroom and a private deck with hammock) are connected by a series of raised boardwalks that lead to the main lodge building.

With views to the Indian Ocean, the relaxed Lodge is where guests come together to swap tales with like-minded travellers over shared lantern-lit meals, relax in the guest library (where there is a collection of books, board games and a self-service bar), watch spectacular sunsets over the Indian Ocean and marvel at uninterrupted star-studded skies

Wander through the Mandu Mandu Gorge to spot black-footed wallabies; hike to the top of Yardie Creek Gorge to see emus roaming freely in the Cape Range National Park and snorkel with turtles, manta-rays, brightly-coloured corals and tropical fish – but the opportunity to swim with some of the gentlest giants of the sea is without doubt the bucket-list highlight at Sal Salis.

  • Just metres from shore the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef (Australia’s ‘other’ great reef!) is one of the continent’s best-kept secrets – home to more than 500 species of fish and 250 coral species. Whalesharks visit the Ningaloo Coast between late March and July, whilst humpback whales also cruise this coast between July and October.

  • Notes

All meals, most beverages, sunset drinks and canapes, a daily selection of local activities and national park fees are included with a stay at Sal Salis. Prebooking for Whaleshark (mid-March to August) and Humpback (July to October) swimming experiences is essential. Sal Salis welcomes guest 10+ years and is open from March through to November annually. The property can also be booked for exclusive-use.
