What to see and do in 2020:

There is always so much to see and do, so many bucket-list experiences to be had in Australia .. here we have put together some of the great reasons why you should visit Australia in 2020 !

Right now, the many celebrations of an Australian summer continue with outdoor cinema to the backdrop of the Sydney Harbour, world-class entertainment at the Sydney Festival, colourful Australian Day festivities across the nation and grand slam tennis with the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Great reasons to visit Australia in 2020

Looking at the year ahead there are countless more reasons to start planning an Australian vacation:

February:

The ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup kicks off in February (21 Feb – 8 March 2020) showcasing international talent from England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and across the globe, this is the largest women’s sporting event ever staged in Australia ! .. And the month closes with the perennially popular parade of colour that is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (Parade: 29 Feb 2020).

March:

Stretch your legs on the new 5-day Spicers Scenic Rim Walk. This fully guided, catered and accommodated Queensland multi-day hike showcases ancient Gondwana landscapes and flora, with opportunities to spot a collection of wonderful wildlife along the way. Or head north to see Bruce Munro’s Tropical Light exhibition in Darwin before it disappears. The creator of the fabulous ‘Field of Light’ at Uluru’s tropical light exhibition will be illuminating the streets and seafront of Darwin only until 30 April 2020.

April:

Grab a seat at the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. This year La Traviata will be performed on an open-air, overwater stage to the backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge (27 March – 26 April). Better yet, to really get up close and go behind the scenes, we can arrange for your moment of fame – on stage, alongside Opera Australia with a walk-on role in the performance !

This is also the time to catch the Biennale of Sydney contemporary art exhibition with more than 90 local and international artists’ innovative and thought-provoking works showcased at venues across the city.

Australia will move a little closer to the US mid-west with non-stop Chicago-Brisbane commencing 20 April.

May:

The culture continues with a collection of very special ballet performances – Pas de deux in paradise – under the stars to the backdrop of the Whitsundays at qualia (22-26 May 2020). Whilst you’re in the neighbourhood, be among the first to sleep underwater on the Great Barrier Reef in the new Reef Suites at Hardy Reef – or enjoy a tranquil piece of the reef with the new and exclusive ‘journey to the Heart’ heli-day touring experience.

June:

See Sydney in a different light as the Vivid exhibition illuminates the city (22 May – 13 June 2020) or head to Melbourne to check out the fabulous new W hotel, opening 15 June 2020. Live the local lifestyle in colour, comfort and style surrounded by some of Melbourne’s most lively restaurants.

July

Tick off some off some of those bucket-list experiences you have always dreamed about: swim with Whalesharks, the gentlest giants of the sea (April – August off Western Australia’s Ningaloo Coast), climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, see the sun set over Uluru, cruise the Kimberley Coast or dive the Great Barrier Reef (diving the northern reefs in July also offers the unique opportunity to come face to face with a minke whale).

August

Head to Tasmania to see the Southern Lights. Aurora Australis illuminates the Southern skies with flickering shades of green, blue, purple and red. Clear night skies away from the city lights offer the best conditions to see this phenomenon.  For an equally colourful adventure, explore Western Australia’s South West to see the beautiful region in bloom.  Wildflowers carpet the region between July and October.

September

Come and enjoy the ‘good life’ at Australia’s newest luxury lodge. Sequoia at Mt Lofty (only moments from Adelaide) will offer 14 contemporary guest suites and some fabulous foodie indulgences.

October:

Head to Far North Queensland to be among the first to enjoy the reinvigorated Silky Oaks Lodge. The  luxury lodge property, nestled in the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and only a stone’s throw from the Great Barrier Reef – will reopen 12 October following a planned 5 month redevelopment to rejuvenate the iconic lodge with Baillie Lodges’ signature flare and finesse.

November:

Cricket fans are in for another highlight this year with the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup (18 October – 15 November 2020) .. it is also the perfect opportunity to check-out the new Adelaide Oval hotel (due to open September 2020) and sample some fabulous Barossa wines.

December

Brisbane will host a spectacular performance of Wagner’s Ring Cycle epic operatic experience (10 November – 5 December 2020); and we will farewell 2020 with one of the biggest parties on the planet – the spectacular Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks display !
