See Australia in a different light .. illuminating events and luxury travel experiences

Australia is a land of light and contrast .. from the first rays of sunlight on the Australian mainland viewed from Byron Bay lighthouse to the changing colours of sunset over Uluru, bright city lights to star-filled outback skies .. but it may also be time to view Australia in a different light with a collection of great events and experiences for the luxury traveller to Australia.

From 6pm on 24 May, Sydney will be illuminated with cutting-edge light installations, interactive sculptures and grand-scale projections throughout the city. The annual VIVID festival is the largest event of its kind in the world – a colourful celebration of technology and creativity that will light up the city over 23 bright nights (until 15 June 2019). VIVID is open to all with free events and installations throughout the city – from the Opera House to the Rocks, the Botanic Gardens to Sydney Harbour, Barangaroo, Luna Park, Darling Harbour and Martin Place. Additional ticketed events include a world-class line up of concerts and musical performances or an interactive and immersive experience at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo .. or we can arrange for a more personalised VIVID experience to enjoy the best of this signature event: from a private guided walking tour with an acclaimed Sydney architect, a luxury cruise on Sydney Harbour or the opportunity to groove on an illuminated dance floor at the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Away from the bright city lights of Sydney, the celebrations continue ..

Head to Hobart for DARK MOFO (6-23 June 2019), an adventurous annual arts festival initiated by the thought-provoking Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) that celebrates the Southern Hemisphere winter solstice with dramatic light installations accompanied by a festival of performing arts and Hobart’s grand scale Winter Feast food festival.

Whilst in Tasmania, catch the colours of the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis). Nature’s colourful natural light display can most easily be viewed in during the darker winter months away from competing city lights.

Or head to Australia’s Red Centre to see internationally acclaimed artist, Bruce Munro’s largest work to date; FIELD OF LIGHT IN ULURU. More than 50,000 stems crowned with illuminated glass spheres magically light up the outback in an installation that covers an area the size of seven football fields. But you’ll need to plan your visit soon, this special event has been extended only until 31 December 2020

.. And for perhaps the greatest light show on earth, Sydney is the place to be on NEW YEARS EVE. Breathtaking fireworks displays light up the city at 9pm and 12pm on 31st December each year. Centred on and around the Harbour, Sydney’s ever-popular celebrations can best be enjoyed from one of Sydney’s harbour-view hotels, waterfront restaurants, a harbour cruise or one of the many special event harbourside vantage points and parties. There are options and celebrations for everyone – whether you wish to be part of one of the biggest parties on Earth or prefer to enjoy the spectacle with a handful of nearest and dearest. We recommend booking early to secure your front-row seats to this annual spectacular.
