Australian Overseas Holidays
#SeeAustralia: With more than 8,000 islands in its maritime borders, residents of the world’s largest island shouldn’t let the events of 2020 stop them from making overseas travel plans. From Bremmer Island to Bruny Island, Rottnest to Lord Howe, there are dozens of beautiful ‘overseas’ holidays to be had right here in Australia, so we’ve put together a collection of Australian Overseas Holiday inspiration to help get you started:
A collection of Australian Overseas Holidays
New South Wales
The lovely Lord Howe Island, one of our favourite Australian ‘hidden gems’ was named one of the World’s hottest destinations (making Lonely Planet’s list of top 5 must visit destinations) and its easy to understand why: World Heritage Listed beauty and biodiversity; a tranquil turquoise lagoon and colourful coral reefs, surf beaches and bush walks, fishing and birdwatching, surfing, scuba diving or golf. All this combined with welcoming world-class accommodation.
Even closer to home for Sydneysiders looking for a short break, there are some spectacular secret stays accessible only by water (or seaplane), ask our Travel Designers to share their hidden gems.
Tasmania
Australia’s Island state offers a collection of fabulous overseas holidays of its own: from world class golfing (and gourmet) getaways on King Island to sailing and hiking holidays on Maria Island. There’s beautiful Bruny Island with it’s bounty of delicious produce and Satellite island for a totally exclusive island escape from the rest of the world.
South Australia
Wonderful wildlife and breathtaking nature, delicious local produce and exclusive beachside accommodation; come behind-the-scenes and beyond the tourist trail with us on Kangaroo Island. Families, romantics, nature lovers and foodies are all equally well-catered for on Kangaroo Island
.. but for real thrill-seekers, we can also whisk you away to the Neptune Islands to cage dive with great white sharks!
Western Australia
More overseas getaways await in WA: take a selfie with a quokka on Rottnest Island (with some great new boutique accommodation to boot!), walk with wallabies on the stunning Abrolhos Islands or witness Christmas Island’s great crab migration.
Alternatively, cruise the Kimberley Coast to explore some of the most remote corners of our continent (and beyond!).
Northern Territory
For a truly unique Australian ‘overseas’ holiday, head to Bremmer Island. Glamping by the beach, wake to the rhythm of the Arafura Sea lapping on the shore and spend the day fishing, bushwalking, birdwatching or simply relaxing! Go crabbing with local custodians of these beautiful lands off the coast of Arnhemland, see turtles nesting and pinch yourself to realise you’re still in Australia!
Queensland
Island hoppers are truly spoilt for choice in the sunshine state:
Exploring the islands of the northern Great Barrier Reef (luxurious Lizard Island or the stunning Orpheus Island, exclusive-use Haggerstone and family friendly Fitzroy) or the wonderful Whitsundays (head to adults-only qualia for romance on Hamilton Island, Elyssian Retreat for wellness or Hayman for all-round family fun). There are even opportunities to sleep over or under the sea on the reef, just ask us how.
Nature-lovers should head over seas in Southern Queensland to explore Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, swim with manta rays off Lady Elliot Island or ‘castaway’ on Wilson Island to snorkel with turtles and brightly coloured corals, far from the cares of the rest of the world.
Victoria
Philip Island has long been a weekend playground for Melbournians and its little penguins attract visitors from all corners of the globe. But lesser-known treasures like Raymond Island also offer overseas opportunities to really do good; we can arrange for you to join the local conservation efforts with hands-on opportunities to contribute to important land care and koala research.
Tropical romantic hideaways, cultural getaways, wildlife safaris, foodie discoveries or family friendly explorations, Australia’s over seas holidays have it all.
But if you still can’t choose which idyllic Australian island holiday is just right for you? No need, we can have you cruising the coast to enjoy them all with a collection of luxury private cruising options across Australia and New Zealand.
