AUSTRALIA’S INAUGURAL MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANTS ANNOUNCED
South Australia has long been celebrated for its exceptional wines, outstanding local produce and relaxed yet sophisticated dining culture. Now, the state’s culinary excellence has received one of the world’s highest gastronomic honours, with the inaugural MICHELIN Guide South Australia awarding Australia’s first coveted MICHELIN Stars.
Following months of anonymous inspections, eleven South Australian restaurants have been recognised with MICHELIN Stars, including an a two-star accolade for Penfold’s Magill Estate Restaurant.
A further ten restaurants have each been awarded one MICHELIN Star, while sixteen establishments have received a Bib Gourmand for exceptional quality and value.
For those who know South Australia well, these accolades simply confirm what we’ve long believed: this is one of Australia’s most exciting culinary destinations.
From the celebrated vineyards of the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and Clare Valley, and the fabulous produce and fresh seafoods of Kangaroo Island and the Eyre Peninsula, to Adelaide’s vibrant restaurant scene, South Australia’s food culture is deeply connected to its landscapes, seasons and passionate local producers.
The MICHELIN inspectors recognised this distinctive sense of place, celebrating the state’s exceptional ingredients, creative culinary talent and diverse influences. Native Australian flavours sit comfortably alongside European and Asian traditions, while open-fire cooking, seasonal produce, world-class wines and spectacular settings combine to create dining experiences that are unmistakably South Australian.
Among the newly starred restaurants are some of the state’s most memorable dining destinations. In Adelaide, Restaurant Botanic showcases native ingredients and the changing seasons in its beautiful botanic garden setting, while arkhé celebrates the elemental art of cooking over fire.
Beyond the city, Hentley Farm in the Barossa Valley, Maxwell Restaurant in McLaren Vale, LVN Restaurant at Bird in Hand in the Adelaide Hills and Skillogalee Barrel House in the Clare Valley offer compelling reasons to explore South Australia’s renowned wine regions.
For us, exceptional food and wine have always been an integral part of sharing the very best of South Australia. Whether enjoying a private tasting with a celebrated winemaker, foraging with chefs, meeting passionate local producers or lingering over a long vineyard lunch these delicious South Australian experiences offer an unforgettable connection to the destination.
With South Australia now firmly on the global MICHELIN map, there’s never been a better time to explore its extraordinary culinary landscape.
At Southern Crossings, we delight in creating bespoke journeys that bring together the state’s spectacular scenery, exceptional wines, remarkable people and internationally recognised dining experiences, ensuring every journey is as memorable as the flavours discovered along the way.
