The Ultimate Guide to Freycinet Peninsula – what to do, when to visit, how to get there and where to stay

Pink granite mountains and pure white sandy beaches; untamed landscapes and refined luxury lodgings await on Tasmania’s Freycinet Peninsula..

SOME OF OUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO ON TASMANIA’S FREYCINET PENINSULA

Stretch your legs on a collection of self-guided and guided wilderness walks; from short bushland strolls to challenging trails. Hike the Hazards or to Honeymoon Bay – and for the energetic, the walks to Wineglass Bay lookout or Mt Amos are well rewarded with insta-worthy views.

Explore Freycinet National Park with opportunities to see an impressive collection of endemic wildlife: spot eastern quolls, Bennetts wallabies, Tasmanian Pademelons and more!

Cruise the crystal-clear waters of picturesque Wineglass Bay. Half-day cruising options showcase stunning scenery and opportunities to spot wildlife (including dolphins, fur seals, penguins, sea birds and, in season, whales. Saffire Lodge guests can also enjoy a private and perfectly paired ‘Seafood and Sparkling’ Cruise option.

Sample local wines and gins, ocean-fresh oysters and farm-gate berries – Devils Corner Winery serves premium pinots with panoramic views, whilst Waubs Harbour Whisky is steeped in local history and the Freycinet Marine Farm offers the immersive experience of sampling oysters straight from the beds whilst sipping fine Tasmanian sparklings. The Freycinet Peninsula also produces premium beef, lamb and game; rock lobsters, scallops and beautiful berries.

Kayak, snorkel, swim or fish in the Freycinet Peninsula’s crystal-clear waters and wetlands, secluded beaches and bays.

For something different, guests of Saffire Freycinet can enjoy a hands-on (and deliciously different) beekeeping experience or a fascinating Tassie Devil experience, a cooking demonstration or a cocktail mixology course – all included with their stay.
Catch the captivating colours of sunset from Honeymoon Bay, Coles Bay – or whilst enjoying sundowners at Saffire Freycinet.

And once the sun sets, enjoy spectacular Southern Skies stargazing (lucky visitors may even be treated to the dancing Aurora Australis Southern Lights!)..

WHEN TO VISIT THE FREYCINET PENINSULA

For mild weather (perfect for hiking) and footprint-free beaches, visit in Spring (September-November) and Autumn (March-May).

Summer (December-February) is the most popular season and a beautiful time of year for swimming and water activities. This is also the most popular time of year for visitors and locals alike so it’s unlikely you’ll have the beaches and trails to yourself. Book well in advance to enjoy a summer vacation on the Freycinet Peninsula.

Winters (June-August) are chilly but also bring their own charms with whale watching opportunities and cosy evenings by the fire with a glass of Tasmania’s premium pinot noir.
